END OF SEASON
Another berry season is finished. U-Pick of gooseberry continues by appointment only. We are sold out of frozen saskatoons. A selection of jams and saskatoon pies are still available on a drop-in basis. Just call ahead or text to 204-870-1140.
Thanks to all our customers who supported us this summer!
Riverbend Orchards was incorporated in spring of 2009 when we purchased Linden’s B B Farm, founded by the late Bill Linden and his wife Marie. Our goal is to continue the Linden’s tradition of providing locally-grown fruit for consumers in southern Manitoba. We have diversified the farm to include tree fruits (apples, plums) as well as several acres of haskap – the newest superfruit. Riverbend Orchards is a licensed propagator and grower of the outstanding haskap cultivars developed at the University of Saskatchewan. Small plants of the newest haskap cultivars are available throughout the growing season.
Each year, fruit picking commences in late-June with haskap (honeyberries), followed by saskatoons and gooseberries in early to mid-July, then cherries in mid to late July. Plums and apples are expected in late August. Customers can choose to pick their own fruit or buy pre-picked fruit from our coolers. Depending on crop size, pre-picked saskatoons are typically available fresh for several weeks in the summer and frozen for a longer period into the fall. We also offer a selection of homemade jams and everyone’s favorite – saskatoon pie made with our fruit.
Our orchards are planted on 20 acres of fertile, river bottom soil at the south side of Portage la Prairie. We are conveniently located at 100 Old Bridge Road within city limits. Most of the property consists of a triangular-shaped acreage bordered by Highway 240 to the east, George Lake to the west and the Trans Canada highway to the north.
